Hi.

Welcome to my travel blog.

I may tell you a travel story, share a list of things to do, an itinerary, or something totally irrelevant to travel, but beneficial for life. Either way, have fun looking around. This is my hobby and travel is my passion, so I can get away with contradicting the marketing strategies of the week.

I hope you find the information you need for your upcoming adventures. Maybe you’ll discover a few other things that’ll keep you coming back. (I would like someone to read my posts.)

Always feel free to comment and let me know if you have questions or suggestions. Please follow the GnG guidelines for commenting, which are: Be nice, refrain from cursing, and giggle a little - it’s good for the soul.

Grazie.

Weekend on Prosecco Road

Weekend on Prosecco Road

For my birthday in November, I chose to celebrate on Prosecco Road with friends. I was mentally preparing to have all birthday plans cancelled as I waited to find out the new travel restrictions. Thank you, Jesus, we were able to travel within the region and visited Strada del Prosecco (Prosecco Rd).

Where did you stay?

We stayed at the Salis House (with optional spa and massage) in the Daybreak Room. This house is managed by Due Carpini Agriturismo next door in Valdobbiadene. It was nice and clean with great amenities. Breakfast is included and they serve you, you don’t serve yourself. Thanks COVID. She made us eggs, bruschetta, and cappuccino in addition to the meat, cheese, fruit, and bread options on the counter. There is a hill in front of and behind Salis House that has some hidden gems. In front there’s a lookout point that is perfect for that wide, landscape shot. Behind, a steep hike up the hill, is an agriturismo with hilltop/side seating and vending machines full of wine and snacks AND great views of the valley.

What did you do?

Friday evening, we visited Bisol Winery. It’s just a short drive from the accommodation and was a good experience. If I could speak Italian, I’m sure it would’ve been 10x better. They took us to their cellar and showed us the barrels and bottles, then we walked into a cold, wet room where they have old presses and such on display.

Saturday, I had our itinerary all laid out nice and neat. But then, we were on Italian time at lunch - I didn’t factor that in so well. I had to call 2nd and 3rd stops and tell them we were running late. They closed at 18.00 so we were cutting it close.

The next stop on Saturday was Nanni Rizzi. It took 1.5 hours for 3 tastings of Prosecco and my friend had to ask for all 3. The Prosecco wasn’t near as good as Bisol (IMHO). As you can imagine - I do not recommend as the service was not good and to boot the Prosecco was okay, however, this was my first time there with a group so other people may have had a better experience. Ask around.

Next was Birrificio Follina. I know right - a birrificio on Prosecco Road! We hung out at this brewery for over an hour. This was during the time when shops and restaurants had to close at 18:00 for dine in, blah blah blah. This was THE BEST TOUR OF ALL. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND IT. It was an engaging tour by Virginia, with clear explanations. She makes and serves great beers. We all bought something to take home. I especially loved their Christmas beer and will return for more. They also serve snacks (meats, cheese, bread, pickled veggies) with the beer tasting.

Sunday, before we headed home we made one more stop at Villa Sandi. It’s a stunning property. Especially in the fall. Their wine shop is top notch. I was sure to try the cantucci with my Prosecco. Have you tried that? Cantucci is made for dipping in a drink. Learn How to Eat Cantucci the Tuscan way.

Then Sunday evening, we shared a meal with more friends at La Dolce Vigna. Even though it’s always full of Americans, it’s still one of my favorite restaurants. I love it for the pizza, wine, and ambiance and husband loves the steaks.

Where did you eat?

We had the birthday lunch on Saturday at Vigneto Vecio which is also a short drive from the accommodation. You could walk to either. Lunch lasted almost three hours. Of course, not everyone was on time. We were a party of 9 people. The food was great and the restaurant had a comfy atmosphere. Certainly worth a stop, if you’re in the area.

Overall, a fantastic way to celebrate 40! Great friends, in Italy, with wine, good food, and wonderful memories.
